gm found this great coming that sums you up the skepticism I used to have for anarchism that I now only have for so-called anarcho-capitalism

For a long time, I didn't realize that originally anarchism was closely related to socialism (and mutualism). Overall I think it is fairly aligned with decentralization values: being able to choose trust, rather than being forced to trust. But not sufficient on its own, for sure.

Same. Even within the left there’s a tremendous amount of misconceptions about communism and anarchism that do nothing to aid society but only to force us all towards the centre-right where most self-proclaimed “progressive” parties operate

Very true. Though I think the only way out (or towards any kind of pragmatic consensus) is to reframe our thinking into embracing a multi-modal system. We can't just have capitalism end-end-end any more than we can have socialism end-to-end. We need the right mixture in the right places with correct boundaries.

Yeah my biggest issue with anarcho-communism is that in the absence of money, something always replaces it, unless there is a slave class to produce free goods via the necessary labour. In an AI future maybe we won’t need money, but I do believe it has a place until then to prevent something worse like social credit

And state-communism I just oppose because it tends towards authoritarianism and thus away from actual communism or anarchy. These are, in my opinion, some of the only valuable critiques of socialism, which I think subsects of the left are already aware of. There are many more valid critiques of the right.

One realization I had is that we're unimaginative with state-communism, we have to consider a state that is not intermediated by humans. The Ethereum consensus protocol is a kind of state-communism.

Interesting idea. I’ll have to reflect on it a bit. Have you written/read any more on this idea?

Just some other random casts: https://warpcast.com/shazow.eth/0x3acff44f Still ruminating on it, but I should! The key insight is that it's strictly contained to a very specific layer and serves a very important purpose, creating a decentralized outcome that is otherwise impossible.
