I've been hearing some progressive liberals calling ESOPs "socialism" and not being super familiar with these vehicles I decided to a bit of reading. This led me to believe that this is a mischaracterization, especially with respect to one of the core tenets of socialism: workplace democracy. So I decided to ask AI to compare them. The rest of the response (the parts before the conclusion were all essentially the same. This makes sense since the sources for the information was nearly identical regardless of the LLM. Clearly these are considered highly trusted sources on the subject. Here is the clearest version which came from Deepseek R1 671B, via Venice.
