There’s a whole lot of left libertarians in the world. After all socialists literally invented the word that neoliberals co-opted to effectively mean laissez faire capitalist.  

I think that’s where the confusion comes from: a deep misunderstanding of leftism built on the assumption that it is equivalent to being statists; and argument that weirdly doesn’t get made about those on the right, even when they’re explicit about increasing state power. 

I’ve written a fair bit about this as has @tbsocialist (he literally wrote a book on the subject) so you can start there if you’re genuinely curious.

In essence, we would argue that crypto’s permissionless nature makes it great for free association, fundraising, and mutual aid. These are core tenets of leftism. 

Community currencies, cooperative ownership, potential to improve workplace and civil democratic participation (and even enable liquid democracy) are things we look optimistically toward. To say nothing of undermining militarism backed fiat

I think there’s a lot of value in people deconstructing their political beliefs into individual elements. 

Are they socially progressive or conservative/orthodox?

Are they in favour of workers having democratic power within a company or do they believe that only shareholders should have decision making power? (good faith here requires keeping in mind workers would still be able to delegate their decision making power)

Are they in favour of a republic with a small number of politicians guiding decisions or a democracy where more people are involved in decision-making?

Are they in favour of more laws, regulation, and the enforcement through violence (autocratic) or more in favour of freedom of association, self-determination, and community/self-policing (libertarian)?

Do they believe markets are inherently wise or that some services must be decommodified to function well.

The interesting thing about reflecting on this is you see immediately how impotent a two-party system is at meeting anyone’s needs.

Pretty damn good. Too much binary thinking. It's almost like you can't classify political beliefs along a single dimension -- who would have thought!?
