Social networks *will* die because of LLM invasion. Don't believe me? Ask anyone if they would prefer joining an  AI only vs human only social network. 

The only way to get around this is privacy preserving, provable digital humanity.

Idk about you but please god I hope I'm never desperate enough to pretend an AI is my friend and I hope that the knowledge that an AI can never actually care about someone in anyway prevents people from using them to replace real relationships. Dystopia awaits us otherwise.

Is it an assumption to say that if I did something it would be out of desperation? I think I know myself pretty well, most of time. Then I said what I hoped, isn't a hope also not an assumption? Like I said "Idk about you", so I didn't think there were any assumptions in that cast at all. 

I didn't say that people are pretending to enjoy talking to AI, of course some people will enjoy it. But anyone who thinks an AI is their friend is playing pretend because friendship is a two way street, the AI would have to care about you to be your friend which they are incapable of doing. You can enjoy it all you want, it is still not your friend and never will be.

Part 2

Making friends with AI won't always be done out of "desperation", often it will just be done because it's easier. Friendship shouldn't be easy. Despite my hopes I believe people will definitely use AI to replace real relationships for a variety of reasons. Now if someone with social anxiety or something wants to use AI as a tool to help their real relationships, such as to develop their conversational skills before using that in meatspace, that's great more power to them. But to actually consider it as one of your friends, that's not good. That is wasted emotional capital that cant be reciprocated. It could of been used caring for another human in a world with an epidemic of loneliness. Emotional capital isn't unlimited.

your cast is full of assumptions:

1. that people viewing AIs as friends are “pretending”

2. that (1) is “desperate”

3. that AI will be “used” to “replace real relationships”

so i ask you:

1. what if people aren’t pretending that they enjoy talking to AI? we’re already seeing this - so i’m curious why you think they’re “pretending”?

2. why is that desperate?

3. why do you assume AI is a replacement for relationships instead of something that could augment and improve them?
