it had been 31 years to the day since i had been to the tidal isle Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy, France. you know those vacations or trips you have as a young person that seem as if they were a dream? well this was one of those moments in a girl's life that was monumental, yet fleeting that almost felt made up as if i had stitched it out of thin air. my entire semester in tours, france felt this way -- i was only 16 at the time. the last time i had come -- this was still the tidal community built in 708 AD. there was of course, the one-lane causeway, but once the tide came in, that was it - you had one lane going in, one lane going out and the English channel surrounding the entire abbey with tides that reach up to 50ft high. As all things change, the weight of the sand on the sides of the causeway created a sediment buildup that threatened the integrity of the abbey and its surroundings. (cont)
