100% agree! I've been in the US 10 years now and I still don't understand the controversy. It seems so logical to me to present an ID to vote. On top, they ask you for your driver license everywhere! I was at the doctor this afternoon... first thing they did is ask me for my ID 🤷 What's the big deal? Can one of my American friend explain? Shouldn't the process be: 1/ Register to vote (at any time) by proving you're a US citizen 2/ On "voting day", present an ID to prove you're effectively the guy on the list that previously registered to vote. Where is the problem?

Many US citizens don't have a "legal ID" (https://cdce.umd.edu/sites/cdce.umd.edu/files/pubs/Voter%20ID%202023%20survey%20Key%20Results%20Jan%202024%20%281%29.pdf). If there were a national ID requirement that might be different. And it just so happens that those without IDs happen to be likely to vote for one party more than the other. Tl;Dr: voter ID laws are a purely political ploy to solve a non-existent problem.

Thanks! Makes sense. Clearly I was far from imagining that such a big chunk of the population had no or an incorrect id 👀
