it’s hard to figure out what kind of work you really like to do if you are often working on amphetamines or even just caffeine or nicotine.

all of these drugs make it a lot easier to work on anything, effectively lowering the threshold for interestingness that would otherwise be required to keep you working.

so you won’t be able to tell what’s above the higher threshold for something you would be interested in working on soberly.

this doesn't matter as much if you plan to use the drugs for the rest of your life, and I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, 2/3 of americans drink coffee daily, and "the science" says that caffeine seems pretty harmless and may even be beneficial.

but the fact of the matter remains.

the work itself needs to be a source of dopamine.
