Last year, I got really into learning Mandarin Chinese.  Started picking up Korean towards the end of the year.  And then I got in an accident in May and my language-learning got sidetracked the last three months.

But I'm ready to dive back in and bring myself back up to speed, cuz wow does a lot fade in a short time!

As much immersion as I can manage.  I developed a whole system for myself while I was learning Mandarin.  I start with picking high-level content I want to be able to read/listen to.  Books I want to read, shows/movies I want to be able to watch without subtitles.  I can start watching shows with subtitles right away - that starts getting me used to actually hearing the language.  I use Migaku with Netflix because it gives subtitles both in English and my target language, and I can select words to add to vocab study decks.

I tackle the first 3000 most common words in the language through vocab building exercises.  Study X number of words a day, inputting them into a review system (Anki is great) and reviewing past words daily.  

At that point, you can start to decipher more and more words through context - with Chinese, I'd also add studying the radicals that make up the characters which helps with context a ton.

Then it's just a matter of continuing to practice.
