It feels like dev culture has a very toxic habit of celebrating arbitrary metrics like commits, PRs opened, features shipped, etc. This is both publicly and within companies. Very little focus is placed on the less tangible things like code quality, feature usefulness, etc. We're then conditioned to focus on the former and ignore the latter.
