if my family is going to NYC this summer and wants to do all the classic new york city tourist stuff - ellis island, empire state building, etc., where is the best location/place to stay? would prefer it be a hotel in a nice area

Did it last year. We stayed at millennium hotel 47th street? at times Square. One block walking to underground station. Perfect location and there is a Starbucks there as well to boot. Recommended.  They also kick off the bus tours right there. Very convenient.
