The pipes are all gummed up,
clotted and congested with the
phlegmy remains of
a thousand truncated battles
waged with dagger tongues,
tempered swords of steely resolve,
cudgels of logic,
and cannons of many past wrongs.
Yet, somehow cut short
by the practical callings of
a domestic life
shared and seasoned with sweat and toil
of hours that flashed by
and days that just melted away
in pursuit of the
shared future they’d seen together.
And so the cannons
are left to stand, poised and ready,
awaiting any sign
of callous words, a hurtful phrase,
to fire once again
until a treaty is proposed,
through tangled limbs and
thrusting hips, all peace is restored.
