one of my favs from Tim Urban: "It's easy to be principled in the yellow zone, when your tribe is behaving admirably. A person's true colors are tested only when yellow isn't an option — when their tribe and principles are in conflict. Tribal loyalty and principles can't both be sacred — you have to choose one."

How many people do you think are capable of navigating that conflict? In my experience the overwhelming majority of people will compromise on their principles to remain part of the team.

Seems to me that in an ideal world green should always win out over orange. But most people choose orange because fear of ostracism is deeply ingrained in us.

Also related is many people have outsourced their principles to their tribe. So they feel no conflict and would say they are always in the yellow. That’s sad for society.
