Honestly in the spirit of capitalism and democracy I don’t really care. If the US wants to win, it needs to ship better social apps. If people are actually upset about privacy, let them vote. Restricting technology has always been a loser’s game.

In 2020, TikTok in India had 120M active users but was later banned because there was ample proof that TikTok was stealing & transmitting user data in an unauthorized manner. If India with 120M active users can build better replacements for TikTok, so can other countries. Data threat is real when it comes to China.

IMO-We have bigger fish to fry when it comes to CCP presence in the US. Connected cargo cranes at ports, ongoing IP theft (particularly from government funded research facilities) and the remaining Confucius Institutes. I’d love to see a Western TikTok alternative, but it doesn’t keep me up at night.

Look who’s the main lobbyist behind this ban. Meta. Zuck’s been selling our data for years with documented privacy & security concerns. Most apps & websites are collecting & selling data. Why TikTok is the witch burning at the stake right now has more to do with Meta killing competitors than it does security issues
