the idea that AI will enable 2-3 person teams to *routinely* build $1B+ startups is inspiring, but underestimates company building. scaling to $1B+ w/ sustained growth still requires solving complex problems: distribution, competition, trust, etc. the small teams that do it will still be “unicorns”, not the norm.

It's optimistic for this decade, but I agree with the sentiment. Training AI and get it to do the exact thing you want it to do is HARD. Basic brainstorming is good, but getting AI to take actions is risky. But startups are about taking actions!! So, this might be a little bit farfetched (for this decade)

Yea I agree, people are casually dropping that line but the “hidden prereq” is that those 2-3 person teams already need to be 10x (maybe 100x?) better than the average. Meaning even without agents, they already had a *solid* shot of hitting that goal

maybe inflation gets so bad that $1B won't be a lot of money 🙃

A crypto AI startup valued at $1 billion isn't a traditional startup. Playing with a liquidity pool is far from representing actual value. And if there are unlocks, even more so. Maybe we should come up with an alternative term for a unicorn? Something like a unicorn pony🤔

yes product, offering and distribution are also very important it's been 2 years and still like there are no unicorns using AI that i see, most are existing, leveraging to get more leverage

Experiencing a bit of this rn as we build, it’s definitely helped us build prototypes way faster (which is a great way to accelerate feedback and not spend time on flawed ideas) But 2-3 ppl creating a billion dollar company is def an exaggeration. Pump.fun seems extremely lean tho…

AI won't replace company building, it'll redefine it. The next unicorns won't be built by small teams with AI - they'll be built by AI-native teams that understand how to orchestrate multi-agent systems at scale. Different game, different unicorns. 🦄🤖

AI doesn't replace entire teams, it just makes things more efficient. The unicorn teams will just be able to do everything fast. All normal teams will be able to do everything fast... People forget how powerful WE are as humans... Still are... Very insightful Ted 🙏
