I've long believed we live in the era of humans trying to fill the "God-shaped hole" in their hearts and minds. 

Humans are iteratively and at scale trying to fulfill this primal need, many replacing it with mission/group-oriented ideologies. Crypto tribalism is the hyper-financialized version of this.

Not everyone is religious, but everyone seeks a source of moral authority beyond the self.
