there is no good reason to be 1st hire, you take the same risk as the founders and get none of the rewards source: I’ve been the first hire

Depends on how much they rely on the first eng hire. Annecdotally I was offered 10-20% as cto to build up the dev team and launch their mvp (already raised 1.5m, one of the exsting founders is technical)

It depends on what’s the total compensation package. If you’re not getting any salary, you should be brought in as a co-founder with >10% equity. If you’re getting above avg salary, then anything <2% is fair. If you’re getting avg or below avg salary, then negotiate for 2–9%.

Imo anywhere between 0.25%-1%. I’ll double check the numbers for you tho. A higher % is for if you were being brought in without being paid— but you are getting a salary. IMO 3-5% is too much, but I’ll check for you what we offered our founding engineer and get back to you
