I was a math kid growing up. Wanted to be an engineer (“make things”) as long as I can remember. 

But I’ve fallen in love with the social sciences, primarily economics, history, and political science. And I’m glad I wasn’t fed any of it through a syllabus… 

I’m having to seek truth on my own.

Yea actually this is 100% my thought process as well. 

And I plan to do the same, if my wife lets me :)

It's a lot easier to study engineering with school's structure and learn the other stuff via books than the other way around.

I tell my kids I'll only pay for their college if they earn a STEM degree. I'm not sure whether I'm joking or not. 🙃
