Cerberus Guards the Acolytes

This morning, I walked to a temple perched atop a hill in the heart of Luang Prabang, a touristy yet charming city in Laos. I couldn’t help but smile at the sight of three dogs lazily resting nearby as a group of young Buddhist monks practiced their chanting. The dogs reminded me of Cerberus, the three-headed hound of Hades—though in this case, they seemed to be guarding not the underworld, but the monks.
