Made another change to the travel setup. Swapped out a 0.48L thermos for a "portable kettle" and a 8 fl oz wide mouth hydroflask. I realized that I really like to be able to have a hot beverage everyday, the routine grounds me in the midst of travel. But I don't necessarily want caffeine/sugar, and it takes a lot of time and money to find that every day while traveling. And don't get me started on the kettles in hotels. Even in fancy hotels, the Nespresso machines/kettles are often not properly cleaned.
As you can see, the 450mL kettle is not much bigger than the 480mL Zojirushi thermos, but it weighs almost twice as much. I got the wide mouth thermos because it's much easier to clean, which is helpful since I'll be having things other than water in it.
In a pinch, I can blanch some kale or other greens with this setup, which can be nice because I often find when I'm traveling, I don't get enough greens. This change adds considerable bulk and weight to my setup, but hopefully it will be worth it for me. 3 replies
