Runes are overrated anyway, CT is in a diluted fever dream over them. Anything with minimal onchain footprint that could effectively be retroactively stripped out of transactions under pressure from outside entities isn't something I'd get near.

Bitcoin is very likely going to see adoption from institutions and governments in the future, who will have power to subpoena mining pool operators who currently control a majority of the network hashrate. 1/N

Since etching/inscribing is permissionless, people could potentially include things like state secrets, CP, other unsavory things in transaction data. I think once the implications of this are apparent to large entities, they'll want to shut the party down. 2/N

Since most data is offchain, mining operators could be pressured to not include inscribed transactions in blocks, or only include them if they revert the transaction back to a type that doesn't include metadata. The fact that the data can't go directly onchain is problematic long term imo
