it doesn’t matter. all that matters is how well you can predict your *future* perceptions. that is what science is all about.

but in a world of very limited time is science really the only thing that matters?

Don’t get me wrong science is well “SCIENCE” as cliche as that sounds, but i think, no rather i feel that it isn’t the main purpose of life.

some people make science to be more than it is, but science is merely the process of predicting future perceptions, and predicting future perceptions is all that matters.

i understand your concern with missing out on the present by focusing on the future, but everything we do concerns future perceptions, whether building, loving, or thinking. there is no true present because everything we know is defined across the passage of time - it cannot exist as a slice of time. everything we have evolved to be is oriented towards what comes next, whether we live to perceive that future or if it is left to our progeny.

reality and our lives are like an intricately woven tapestry. each of our threads exists across time. not only would each thread be much less meaningful on its own, but a single point on a thread has no meaning without the existence of the rest of the tapestry.

in science, yes i do agree with your statement/belief that observing and predicting future phenomena is all that matters but generally speaking i place more value and also think that more value and importance should be placed (by others) on really living in the present rather than obsessing (lack of a better word) over predicting future perceptions.
