Prevalent and overrated take. Many things feel like shit, and yet they are successful. ChatGPT launched as a desktop app. Eating McDonalds and drinking Coke makes me literally wanna end myself and yet I still fall for it. Warpcast and Coinbase design, in general Silicon Valley design (except for maybe Apple), has unholily been divorced from aesthetics since decades. Itâs a brutalist Faustian bargain where function always trumps form. The fact that Mr Cringelord himself, Mark Zuckerberg, creates the highest ROI in the industry and where SV cannot, for the life of it, create immersive and cool VR experiences (opposed to how video game producers and LA/Hollywood have perfected this for decades) proves it abundantly. At this point all of software can look and feel like actual garbage for when it provides real value to users they snap somehow into another level of Maslowâs hierarchy of needs and the appâs appearance stops mattering. We should index on this more.
