I’m torn on memecoins. They legitimately feel like a fun new social primitive. Addicting and always something new to talk about with friends. They’re also a zero sum attention vacuum. I don’t feel good when I pay attention to them. Memecoins: passing fad or glimpse of the future?

Define a memecoin If they create long-term communities, then a potential new primitive for building communities. But if they are mostly built around number go up, eventually number stops going up.

Exactly. I believe the true memecoins are a great way to onboard new crypto users and build strong communities that carry their message. Doge, shib, pepe were are examples of long lasting, cult like communities that made many success stories of people making a million from a 100 bucks. Degen is also on a path to achieve this, wit a really strong core community which is now expanding. 90%+ are short term pumps though and eventually go to zero, which is a bad way to welcome new users onchain and can even be harmful long term.
