We're approaching a reality where custodial ownership of Ether is the norm rather than the exception. I still believe that self-custody is the only "right" way to hold crypto, and I hope we don't lose that shared value to corporations.

I'm not sure they'll need to ban it, they can just engineer so far around it that no one even thinks of it as an option. They could effectively ostracize the concept.

Completely agree. I will say custodial has its place and benefit, but self custodial should be the norm. HOWEVER, we are not ready yet. A super simple - as in so simple my grandma could do it, s i m p l e - is a must. It needs to also be secure to the extreme whole also being near impossible to lose (access to). So, not there yet. But we are close, i believe.

And I'm confident that better UX on private key management could boost it

Even if a large % of eth is held by corporates in centralised custody setups I still think that its more 'FTX proof' to keep my own wallet :).

I sure hope when coinbase decentralizes, they only airdrop their governance token to validators
