Some say: cheap L2 fees => less "revenue" for Ethereum stakers (direct fees) and holders (supply burn). 
This simulation suggests that cheap fees and more L2s will attract more users and will largely compensate the revenue drop. Ethereum is like a bakery selling blockspace instead of bread. If you sell your bread cheaper but you sell a lot more, you'll get more money flowing in. 
Of course, it assumes that people want to eat bread are indeed attracted to the Ethereum ecosystem. But with continuous progress like seamless bridging, cross-L2 apps, it makes more sense every day. Just this morning I cross-chain swapped tokens to fund my gnosis pay card and it was very smooth and satisfying.
