I've been a part of the art community for 2.5 years on X & now here for a few months, & I can tell you with certainty that artists on @farcaster are at a crossroads. Best case 1: There's some foundational shift where the fc ecosystem elevates these "quality content" creators & they can have a meaningful existence here. Best Case 2: They go explore Lens or maybe back to X (where despite the algo, they get some recognition for their art from their peers). Worst case: They get disenchanted with web3 altogether because they've been scammed, rugged, ignored, reduced to a number & pretty much treated like second class citizens regardless of where they exist. I worry about this the most. Irony 1: The art community is the most vibrant community any social community can have. We literally have generational talent hanging out amongst us & most of us are unaware. Irony 2: Artists who are here are the most tech forward of the normie bunch we'd wanna onboard. Biggest assets for any social platform. 1/2 🧵

Well said! I was part of the big influx of artists earlier this year and many really liked the platform because it felt like we were reaching new people and seeing works that would have otherwise been buried by xwitter’s algorithm. The tipping meta was also great bc many of us could pay bills by using and sharing our arts! But since the spring it’s been so downhill! I had a powerbadge that got taken away, despite cohosting the gifart channel and starting a theory channel. Sharing art and media doesn’t get you any reach or discovery. Systems like Moxie only entrench user hierarchies. It feels pretty terrible and the thought of trying yet another platform is exhausting, when we just rather spend time making art. It’s sad and feels kind of hostile.

What you've described is real and a struggle for many but as with anything early, It's gonna take some time to solve for these. I invite you to follow @pkok. One way we're rewarding artists and creators is through our daily 10K degen allowance. We're trying to get grants and other sources of fundings to be able to support artists at scale.

Def gave @pkok a follow! It’s nice that there are people out here trying to keep the arts alive. There’s definitely some growing pains on WC and hopefully they get resolved soon ❤️
