Just listened to this pod with Phil Daian from 2018 and it was about the state growth problem. It's interesting that 5 years later Ethereum still hasn't solved it. There's plans to solve it using stateless clients but they are years away

Also learned about GasToken gastoken.io - a smart contract that lets you tokenize and store gas when gas prices are low then use it when gas prices spike. It uses the network's storage refund system (SELFDESTRUCT) for gas cost savings

Do MEV bots still use it?

Not yet, there's an EIP in Dencun that will essentially remove it by changing its functionality to no longer delete the contract's code and storage

Yup.  Renders it mostly harmless.  Selfdestruct has been nothing but a liability.
