we live in the hills of a super small town so my nightly walks are (now) super dark and super quiet. i’ve always had a bit of a fear of the dark and up here it comes in the form of the awareness of the animals with which we coexist- coyotes, bears, wolves, cougars. one night, i noticed that the fear is significantly stronger when i am walking away from the house as opposed to toward it. even when i first turn around and am still a mile away from home. as soon as i turn toward home, less fear. also, hey. it’s been a minute 👋🏼
