for years i had only an adjustable bench + adjustable dumbbells + DIY pull-up bar. that combo can take you very far, especially if you add a handful of simple accessories like bands now i have converted my garage into home gym: horse stall mats on the ground, full size squat rack with cable pull down/up, dip bar, landmine press, misc accessories what kind of space and budget are you working with? start small and add as you go is usually best, or dive in deep if you have the cash and willpower to be consistent you can check out my set up here where i've been posting my "overkill attestations" for the lifting challenge: https://zora.co/collect/base:0xa9d715e1e055229e3900d9f20aed95aa88e7bfdd

got myself a bench and some adjustable dumbbells as well. Will be enough for a while but wanna get myself a squat rack eventually. bit unsure how much I should spend - don't really wanna drop more than 2k. Will upgrade as I go. What's the one you got?

mine is this one (canadian company): https://bellsofsteel.com/collections/racks/products/light-commercial-rack + a bunch of attachments for it, 2 bars, 300ish pounds of plates. all together came to about $3200 CAD, then it all went on sale right after i bought it so i got ~$440 credit, not far off your 2k USD budget
