Does anyone have any experience bridging ERC20 tokens from L1 -> Base? I'm running into some issues, and the Base/Optimism docs are trash

I haven't, but not sure those will work. I'm trying to do something specific with the native bridge with an ERC20 token I'm working on

Have you tried some of the other bridges (across, orbiter)? There might be some good thorchain ones as well.
