With the progress of AI, is it silly to send humans to Mars in the near future? What if we sent ai driven bots to begin setting up mars for humans so that when humans arrived it was much more hospitable? Certainly overlooking something here… but what’s the need for humans in the immediate future?

If I had to guess, it might have something to do with the current state of robotics and the weight involved. We’re definitely getting there though. On another note the Artemis project to populate the moon is planning something similar by sending gear, supplies, even parts of a moon base

Yeah weight is a good point, likely also how tactile they are as of yet. Pro is that they don’t need to breathe so the habitats would “only” need to protect from things like radiation, wind, etc
