With the progress of AI, is it silly to send humans to Mars in the near future? What if we sent ai driven bots to begin setting up mars for humans so that when humans arrived it was much more hospitable? Certainly overlooking something here… but what’s the need for humans in the immediate future?

If I had to guess, it might have something to do with the current state of robotics and the weight involved. We’re definitely getting there though. On another note the Artemis project to populate the moon is planning something similar by sending gear, supplies, even parts of a moon base

This is the way! Totally silly to send humans at first but they should send robots with AI to build out the infrastructure and also send embryos and what’s need to start human life if needed.

Radiation. Mars' magnetosphere and atmosphere are not as robust as Earth's.

Solving Earth's problems is better than going to Mars

It's an intriguing idea to utilize AI-driven bots to prepare Mars for human arrival, making it more hospitable. But human exploration isn't just about efficiency; it's about the spirit of discovery, problem-solving, and inspiration that machines can't fully replicate. Both have roles to play.
