I’m not trying to say that economic environment didn’t have an impact, but look at the below - social media useage in teens charted against teen girls depression from 2005 - 2019

Not to quibble, but can you draw that conclusion? There’s no change in the above chart on median earnings around 2012 when happiness in young people plummets. Also, this is 8th - 12th graders, so they wouldn’t be as effected by weekly earnings
