confession: qualification is the most interesting part of race weekend to me

I was listening to a podcast recently where they went through the overtake score of all the tracks. 

They concluded that with today’s cars a majority of the tracks don’t see much overtaking. Coupled with tires that barely degrade and most weekends are basically a quali race.

Is that why you find it more interesting?

i think the race feels is less interesting to me because 1) less overtakes 2) yellow/red flags tend to completely undermine strategy. a team can make the right choices just to get fucked by a team that takes advantage of pitting under a yellow flag. sure the drama is entertaining but it just feels more unfair than anything else and totally random

in comparison with qualis we find out where each car/driver ranks on the track in the most fair way possible and it doesn't take 2 hours to find out :)

Yellow/red flags can also mess with quali, like when someone crashes in Q3 after setting a lap, and others don’t get a chance. Or if you're on a hot lap and a red flag ruins it, that’s your shot gone
