i think you're half right (i don't think 99% of the community understands or gives a single shit about decentralization)

also i'm not sure if just being an escape from musk/zuck will get people to stick

decentralized social is kind of in a rough spot because today's iterations don't meaningfully solve the problems with social today and hence has little to offer to convince people to join

I don't think Jay Graber would describe it this way but it seems the community views it as an escape from musk and zuckerberg that has a credible path to decentralization.
