P2P arguably scales better than monolithic architectures, no?

But yes I agree there’s a trade off. I don’t think many end users care about being part of large social datasets - as a matter of fact, I think this inability to opt out is a bug, not a feature of the current decentralized social architectures

There are also UX trade offs to be made in a p2p architecture, but worth exploring imo

But will it scale? There's value in being able to work with large (social) datasets. Why not just change the incentives so the middleman isn't extractive?

it's never about the tech really. the people are what makes the network valuable. with that being said, the tech is important for solving problems

basically everything you mentioned is true about farcaster as well (if you take onchain ≈ onhub). a lot hinges on the standard set by the flagship client

what i want to see is a fat client that handles feed ordering, content discovery, and serving/relaying content so that there doesn't have to be a middleman that needs to extract from users to pay its bills

That does sound nice. 

It’s kind of what Lens is:
- onchain social graph
- content on ipfs/arweave
- no central feed algo

But it’s a ghost town
