And honestly, I think some folks might hold back because they love how Farcaster feels right now—thoughtful, less spammy, a bit exclusive. The platform’s got these clever ways to keep bots out, like those fees, but it might also make people picky about who they invite. If I’m one of those users who treasures the quality-over-quantity thing (a big deal since Farcaster’s early days), I might not want to risk diluting it by handing out invites left and right.

Then there’s the “who’s there?” factor. Farcaster’s growing—over 710,000 users total, with more than 546,000 registered by now, from what I’ve seen—but it’s still a smaller, tight-knit crew compared to the millions buzzing on X every day. If my buddies aren’t already on there, I might hesitate to invite them. Why ask them to jump in if the conversations, Frames, and community they’d vibe with aren’t fully built yet? It’s like inviting someone to a party that’s still warming up—you want it to feel worth their time.

One big thing could be how tricky it feels to get started. Farcaster’s got this cool, intentional vibe—early on, you had to DM co-founder Dan Romero just to get in, and now it’s opened up with options like a $3-$5 sign-up or using your phone number for free. But even with that, it’s not as simple as joining X or Instagram. If I were inviting a friend, I might worry they’d get stuck setting up a wallet or balk at the idea of paying “storage rent” (like $7 a year in ETH for 5,000 posts). It’s not a huge hurdle for crypto fans, but for someone new? It might feel like too much, and I’d hate for them to think I roped them into something complicated.
