Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cannot hear the falconer; Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity. Surely some revelation is at hand; Surely the Second Coming is at hand. The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert A shape with lion body and the head of a man, A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun, Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds. The darkness drops again; but now I know That twenty centuries of stony sleep Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle, And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born? “The Second Coming” - William Butler Yeats, 1919

It’s not about being perfect; it’s about progress. One small step today is better than no step.

It seems like "The Bitter Lesson" from AI is just a general lesson for the design of any system with emergence. It's very fun to tinker with a system's details but a simple design with emergence always works better http://www.incompleteideas.net/IncIdeas/BitterLesson.html

TIL that Lewis and Clark’s journals, one of America’s greatest cultural artifacts, are actually a bunch of diaries and notes discovered and added to over 220 years. Many have been found in unexpected places, including an attic desk in St. Paul, Minnesota, and a used bookstore in Philadelphia. There are big gaps of time missing and for decades historians have speculated that more will be discovered. https://lewisandclarkjournals.unl.edu/item/lc.sup.missing /history invite pls

did my first all day offsite yesterday with the @coinbase exec team. a few quick observations: 1. this is a real team — brian, emilie, alesia, max, & greg have now been working together for 5+ years — and it shows. 2. the level of rigor of strategic thinking + execution is incredibly high. thinking on the scale of years+decades, while consistently driving short term execution. 3. they get onchain — and are leading the way in shaping what it means to bring a massive public company onchain. I mostly listened and learned — I'm excited to be a part of this team and to bring the perspective I have from being in the onchain trenches every day with all of you. onwards!
