What’s a moment in your life that taught you to be confident? Sometimes the little things can teach us a lot about believing in ourselves. A funny example for me would be my first encounter with a pogo stick in 3rd grade. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to jump more than 2-3 times, while all the other kids made it look easy. That night, I went to bed determined to figure it out. The next day, I was bouncing like a champ. It’s silly but I still think about that day when I am stuck on something. 😂 What about you? Do you have any experiences like this that you remember when facing a challenge?

When I was 26 I was asked to join an acrobatic stilt company. I had no experience on stilts , but I did contact improvisation dance, and knew how to lift people and fall safely and dance. My first day borrowing stilts I succeeded in doing a slide fall. Falling intentionally on stilts is something most stilters avoid their whole life, but was instrumental to the choreography. I would be learning. I had five days of intensive training including mirroringincredibly experience dances, and incredibly complex footwork. I stumbled often, but eventually I was doing kick covers and drop backs and other seeming impossible maneuvers. and then I was on a plane to Mexico where I was helping teach other stilters acrobatics and choreography. The next three months I performed multiple times a day with The Carpetbag Brigade Including work as a four-legged, mythical, stilt creature and all kinds of crazy lifts and moves. For the next decade, teaching and performing acrobatics Stilts was a big party of my life and career.
