I still don't understand the auction mechanism, but I keep getting outbid. I just want to buy and be done with it lol

Just bid the max amount you are willing to bid total. Not per token. 

ie: if you want 5 tokens for 1000 a piece, just bid 5000 total. The smart contract will give you as many tokens as possible for the total price you bid.
