When your Hub upgrades, you'll be prompted to ack a message saying that there are no rewards for running a Hub. 

Over 10k people have been tricked into running hubs by youtube videos promising (fake) rewards. This change will discourage those users from running Hubs, which in turn will give us more headroom to scale.

Kinda funny that you have to discourage users from running hubs to scale. I understand the whys, but seems counterintuitive from a number go up perspective.

A fair distinction. I guess I was just trying to make a silly, poorly executed  joke about how most networks want more nodes, and fc currently wants less hubs. Even though it's obvious, for all the reasons stated, that it is a perfectly logical conclusion.

Users aren't discouraged - airdrop farmers are discouraged. We've noticed bad behavior from hubs that spam the network, are unable to keep up, and cycle their hubs constantly creating excessive burden on the rest of the network
