One difference that I’ve noticed in parenting culture when comparing the US and Mexico is that the US loves pregnant women but once the baby is born they are meant to be seen, not heard. When a child is being a child i.e. having trouble regulating their emotions or having a hard time; it’s the parents who are blamed instead of just accepting that children have a lot of learning to do to participate in the world we’ve built around them. Whereas in Mexico, at least from what I’ve observed so far, people are far more accommodating and kind to kids. A woman who was visibly in a rush to get somewhere turned around and stopped to let my 18 month old pet her dog when she noticed he was interested. Generally I wish the world was more compassionate, especially toward the little humans. It’s tough out here but it’s a lot easier when we support each other.
