I am a self-taught computer programmer with a 4-year CS degree 😆 But that degree was important, not because it gave me the knowledge, but because if I didn't have that, I'd always doubt myself credentialism is not the competence, it's the permission

this is not convincing enough for me to finish uni for context ive not attended even 1 day of uni yet, starting this fall, but planning to dropout after 1 year

i’d suggest not dropping out unless you know you are sitting on a rocket ship already if not already and you think you’ll work hard enough to find that rocket, i’d suggest putting that hard work in managing both uni and work i know what you’re feeling, it’s a pain wasting away 9-6, but important to take calculated risks

@soulninja.eth I considered dropping too in my first year to work, so I get your point Credentials also give you mobility (if you don’t have a US / CAN / EU passport), you can move around the world with ease, visas are not an issue, immigration if considered is not an issue

hmm, yes these are way more convincing it's just the thought that im gonna have to spend 160k and 4 years just to get that and to learn things i 100% know i can learn by myself this is also partially why im considering this https://x.com/_soulninja/status/1809398863348003188

and it's not like it's gonna help me get jobs either, cuz i can already get high paying jobs by leveraging my network and work experience already so it's like - acquire skills which are self learnable - cs degree not going to unlock jobs - v expensive ( but thankfully i can afford ) - 4 years all for "credentials" but i have 1 year to take this decision, and im going to give it a lot of thought. thanks a lot for the input! really appreciate it
