An unusual realization for me: when the police appeared near us at the rally in Berlin, my whole body tensed up, and I noticed that some other Russians also froze in anticipation of something bad. Perhaps we are very traumatized by how the police treated us during protests. At protests in Russia, we would take medicine, water, and a charged power bank with us to have the ability to call for help and contact a lawyer. This never happened to me, but people could be arrested and held in cold police vans (prison vehicles) for 12 hours without food, water, or access to a toilet, and then kept in police stations for a day or more. This exact situation happens to the protesters in Iran; the police and intelligence officers behave at their worst towards the people.
