Every person who has tried to open this puzzle box over the past 150 years has died. Itās similar in someways to my 2023 thriller the puzzle master, which has the same hero, Mike Brink. But itās different in that this book is set in Japan, and is a fast paced adventure.

Hi, thanks for being here. This novel is about an ingenious puzzle constructor who is invited by the emperor of Japan to solve a deadly puzzle box. The puzzle solver, whose name is Mike Brink, is facing a challenge that nobody has been able to crack.

People who have read a lot of my novels will recognize certain traits that are distinctly mine. One is that there is a hyper realism that is then cut through with fantastical or speculative elements. Another is lots of historical research to make the world feel totally believable.
