Gas in cryptocurrencies is the amount of computational effort required to complete a transaction. More complex transactions consume more gas, and therefore entail higher fees. Also, if a transaction needs to be confirmed as quickly as possible, the user sets a higher gas price. If the gas price included in the transaction is too low, miners may ignore it.
