Perpetual futures (perpetual swaps or perpetual futures) appeared in 2016, becoming the most popular derivative on the crypto market. On the BitMEX exchange alone, which was the first to launch them, the trading volume of these instruments since their introduction has exceeded $3 trillion. Daily trading volumes in cryptocurrency-based perpetual futures exceed hundreds of billions of dollars, outpacing other traded futures instruments.
