The biggest change to existing channels: 1. We're getting rid of Trending — you can either have no moderator and have the Main feed in a channel be priority mode (i.e. unique for each user) or take control of the channel and use an @automod type tool to create a custom algo

and with the moderation path, that's protocol level?

It's super simple: if you have moderation on, the user that is set as the moderator (at the protocol level), whatever casts in the channel they like is the canonical channel feed.
