As a concept, they become less prominent in your mind as you age (exception being pets).

A 12 year old is clearly much more likely to be thinking about e.g. zebras, orca whales, tigers, etc. than a 30 year old.

I had a similar thought yesterday about how giraffes have earned an outsized share of attention (especially among children) relative to their population, just because they are fucking weird I guess.

I mean I guess they are kind of just “long horse” and “chad horse” respectively, but I take your point.
