op retro doesn't reward app builders at all even though apps are what drive demand to the chain. please explain how this makes logical sense?

optimism grants funding confusion comes down to:
- when optimism talks about "retro funding", they talk about the entire arc of retro grants they will do over the next N years
- readers think optimism is talking about specifically round 4, or at best, rounds 4-7. when really, optimism is talking about rounds 4-N

they have like 850M OP allocated to retrofunding, this year's rounds are a tiny fraction of that (40m?)

here they say all of these projects will be eligible for retro funding -- just not in these specific rounds

their comms have been bad though

yeah i have the same read, apps looking for retro funding kinda just have to trust/hope that they'll be eligible next year

reading the mirror article - looks like apps aren't going to be eligible for retro for 2024

it doesn't really affect me, just want to understand the logic behind that decision & generally don't think anyone "deserves" money. it's great that this is even offered.
